I land at DFW at 8 tomorrow and have 6.5 hours to kill before I need to be in Granbury.

Does anyone have a favorite coffee shop or bakery or somewhere that you’d recommend so I can get some paperwork done in the morning? My only requirement is free parking.

(Beer or brewery would be fine too, but they probably aren’t open too early.)

If you have that much time to kill, Light Rail can quickly take you from the airport right to The West End in Downtown Dallas, which has a lot of diversions. In fact, Urban Blend has great coffee and a good vibe right at the West End DART Station. That’s all near to Dealey Plaza, Art Museum, etc. in the West End. Depending on your timing you could take the train in and out even before bothering with the rental car.

In the Granbury direction, I actually really like the Amon Carter, which has a nice coffee shop/cafe , if you are headed toward Ft. Worth first. Worth a visit, nice vibe, cool place to hang out with a coffee and some art. And sorta on the way to Granbury. And, of course, being Texas the Carter has acres of free parking...

When I’m in Arlington I stay at NYLO in Las Colitas. There is a cafe called Le Madeline near there that I’ve grabbed coffe and baking from. It’s nice but not really a “destination” or anything too special....just not a Dunkin . If you’re looking for a place near the airport you may wanna check it out.

There’s la Madeleine just off of William D Tate (just north of the airport): https://lamadeleine.com/ is a good bakery/French restaurant .

Or Old West Cafe on North West HWY (a couple of more miles north on the main drag in Grapevine) is an amazing breakfast place . There’s also a Whataburger on the same street if you head east about a mile (there’s a fancy new coffee shop off at the intersection with Main street but I’ve never been since I’m not a coffee person).

There are a couple of small shops on Main Street Grapevine also, and a couple of Bakeries that are all nice. They are geared towards tourists and the area is easy to burn time walking around (it’ll be raining so that might not be the best plan).

Just about everywhere has free parking, you almost have to look for paid parking.

I was thinking about going to the Feed Store in Southlake ( https://feedstorebbq.com/ ) for lunch at about 1:30pm, depending on when you need to be in Gran bury, that might be a little late for you but if you’re interested I would love the company . There’s a Babe’s Chicken in Granbury, if you’re meeting people in Granbury and will be around for lunch/diner, go there. If you like fried chicken or chicken fried steak you’ll be in for a treat (it’s one of the most Texas places you can eat at).

I’m also instructing at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur on Saturday if you’ll be in town and want to check it out (I’m scheduled to instruct a guy with an Audi R8 v10, not sure if it’s a convertible or coupe though) and run the novice classroom sessions. They’ve got loaner helmets and allow passengers with instructors (I’m friends with the track manager so I’m pretty sure I could get you a ride).

It’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow, but I don’t think it’s supposed to storm so you might not have problems with your flights .

Tons of info, thanks! I have to be in Granbury at 2-2:30 so I’m figuring I’ll hang out nearish the airport and work on my laptop for breakfast and may eat dinner in Granbury. I actually fly back home tomorrow night but if I get stuck (again) I’ll keep the track invite in mind.

My morning meeting was cancelled so I suddenly have 14 hours on the ground and only 3 hours of reasons to be in Texas, but it costs more than my ticket to change flights.

If I don’t get to them tomorrow they’ll at least  end up on my list of future possibilities, so thanks!

There’s also a breakfast place off of LBJ (635) and Regent, northeast of the airport, called Jam & Toast. Of course, the ubiquitous Starbucks. Or head to Fort Worth to get a bit closer to Granbury and hit Yolk in Sundance Square (there are a bunch of other options that way as well).
